The first day for our 2012 baseball tryouts is Monday, February 27th, starting at 3pm and going til 6pm at Garfield Playfield.  Please make sure to have all of your baseball gear with you and ready to go by 3pm sharp.  The plan is for Garfield to field two teams this year, a Junior Varsity and Varsity, with the potential for a third JVC team if enough players turn out in the spring.

Please make sure you have everything updated in the athletic office by Friday, February 17th, including your athletic/ASB fee, physical exam (if needed), and any related documents (grade checks, release forms etc.)

Here is schedule for the next few weeks of conditioning workouts at Garfield:
  • no weight training on Monday, January 16th (MLK holiday)
  • 3-4:30pm on Wednesday, January 18th
  • 4:15-5:15pm on Friday, January 20th (after the baseball team meeting)
  • 3-4:30pm on Monday, January 23rd
  • 3-4:30pm on Wednesday, January 25th
  • no weight training on Friday, January 27th (day between semesters in-service day)
  • resume normal schedule for Monday, January 30th through Friday, February 17th
  • no weight training during midwinter break (Monday, February 20th through Friday, February 24th)

The Garfield High School baseball team is holding batting practice at the K Center in Columbia City on Saturdays from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm through Feb. 25.

Practice is open to anyone planning to try out for GHS baseball in the spring.

The cost is $20 for the entire winter training program. Makes checks payable to GHS Diamond Booster Club and deliver to Scott Honican at the practice.

The 90 minute program will include front and side toss and live arm. Instructors will help players focus on staying inside the ball and driving it hard.
