Archive for March, 2015

The 2015 season got off to a great start over the weekend for both varsity and JV teams, as they went undefeated in 4 combined practice games on Saturday afternoon. Varsity won 8-0 in the first game over Steilacoom and 4-1 against Washington, with each game lasting 3 innings.

In the first game, Garfield started out hot, scoring two runs in the first inning, while senior Toby Perkins needed only 11 pitches to shut down the top of the Steilacoom order. The bottom of the order then came through for two more runs, while junior Aidan Miller worked around a bloop single to retire the side. In the top of the third, Garfield exploded for four runs, two coming in on a hard double by sophomore Jae Abrams. Sophomore Alex Gregory then shut the door in the bottom of the inning, striking out the side.

In the second game, Garfield followed up a strong first inning pitched by captain senior Henry Freed by knocking around the Washington starter. Junior Eli Wilson hit a bomb to right center for a triple, and scored on Freed’s line drive to left. Sophomore Zubin Kopischke worked a clean inning, and Garfield scored two more in the bottom of the frame on an infield RBI single by junior Aidin Montefisher and a blast by senior captain Patrick Lin. Senior David Brinkley gave up one unearned run en route to closing it out.

JV smashed their way to a pair of wins, as in both games they scored into the double digits. Timely hits along with a lot of walks allowed the Bulldogs to pull ahead. The pitching staff did its part in shutting down the Steilacoom and Washington JV lineups.

The Bulldogs Varsity will open the season with a nonconference game at Issaquah on Monday afternoon, while the JV team will host Issaquah. The Varsity squads split their season series in 2014 with the Eagles winning at home in March and the Bulldogs upsetting Issaquah at Garfield in April.
