Week 4 began with all three Bulldogs baseball teams playing against Eastside Catholic on Monday, March 21st. The C-Team won a high-scoring affair 13-11 that was stopped for a 15-minute rain delay at one point. The offense was patient, took advantage of walks, and came through with many hard-hit balls against the Crusaders pitching. The JV team lost at home to Eastside Catholic 3-1 in a strong performance by the JV pitching staff. The Varsity game was rained out that evening in the 2nd inning and rescheduled for the following week at EC.
Games at Bainbridge were postponed due to field playability issues so the JV and Varsity teams played a pair of games against the Spartans at Garfield on Friday, March 25th. The afternoon Varsity home game against Bainbridge was a historic event with junior Alex Gregory pitching a no-hitter in a 10-0 victory! Gregory was efficiently dominant, throwing only 70 pitches and facing just one hitter above the minimum during his 6-inning complete game shutout. The Bulldogs offense was led by four hits from junior third baseman Zubin Kopischke and a pair of hits from senior right fielder Caleb Stocker and junior left fielder Klaus Bachhuber. First baseman J’Raan Brooks and shortstop Owen Cobb each knocked in a couple runs. Brooks preserved the no-hitter with a web gem diving catch on a line drive hit to his right in the 5th inning. For the JV team, sophomore Nelson Huffaker had a great night at the plate but the Bulldogs JV lost to Bainbridge 8-3.
The C-Team offense only had a single hit against Ballard that same afternoon, but freshman Ben Jeweler was able to shut down the Beavers offense in a 2-0 win. The C-Team’s pitching success was short-lived as the Bulldogs allowed too many early walks and had their late scoring rally fall short in a 4-3 home loss to Newport on Saturday March 26th.
Varsity: 1-2 overall, 1-1 in conference
JV: 1-3 overall, 1-2 in conference
C-Team: 3-2 overall, 3-0 in conference
Congrats on the no no!
